rainy evening for league golf

So . . . I'm on the 2nd hole subbing for FirstEnergy golf league tonight at Valley View - shooting about the worst hole in history (I got a friggin' 13), when thunder began rolling and lighting started flashing. Then came the rain. I wasn't deft enough to make it to shelter before I became soaked.

As I stood with about 8 other golfers under a metal pavilion roof, thinking about the admittedly shitty hole I had just played, I drifted for a moment - and realized that the Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot had the top down. Love that vehicle, but for shame, when the you're caught topless in the rain. That's all I could think about for about the next 3 holes. Then it hit me - since I had come directly from work to the links - the laptop was inside the Jeep. I thought, that it must be soaked - and worse - what would they say at work for such carelessness?

Thankfully, the top of the Jeep was tucked in between the back seat and the tailgate, where there's just enough room for the laptop in its bag. So it did have SOME semblance of cover. What were the chances of water getting in between the seat and the top, or the top and the gate? Great, I thought.

Upon completing my game, I was very anxious to assess the damage. Laptop was priority number one. ZERO damage. Dry as a bone. Happily, I set out to dry the pleather seats and dashboard, and remove the plug/stoppers from the floorboard to allow the moat to empty out of the cabin of the vehicle - an admittedly thoughtful and useful feature. I think that my friend Francis got a real kick out of this.

Now home and dry with cigar and wine. Oh, the rain lasted about a half an hour - and came pretty wicked during that time. We insisted on waiting it out. Following, it turned out to be a beautiful evening to finish out the game - and my score improved as the night continued.

Some might ask...why is Bryan driving Sharon's jeep in the first place?
