My sister, Jen, gave me a gnome for Christmas a few years back as a gag gift. When she came over and saw it in our backyard she laughed. "Sharon, that was a joke . . . get rid of that thing . . . it is so ugly". For some reason I grew to love that ugly critter, so I kept it.
This past Christmas, Jen gave me yet another gnome as a gag gift. Of course I kept this one as well. This miniature gnome came with a book to tell it's tale. Jen was over yesterday and saw my gnome. I complained to her how upset I was that my gnome wasn't traveling and sending me postcards on his all his great adventures. He just stayed in my backyard. She was confused, so I told her the story from my gnome book, that she gave me:
" . . . In recent years, new tales have sprung up around the garden gnome. In particular, the roamin' gnome has become a diehard urban legend. Gnome-napping as it is also referred to, involves a garden gnome who mysteriously disappears from an unsuspecting person's yard (sometimes even leaving a note). The gnome proceeds to keep in touch as he travels the world, sending back photos of his journey, usually in front of some well-known landmark like Mount Rushmore or the Eiffel Tower. However, much to the joy of the gnome's owner, he's not gone for good. The gnome will return home after weeks or months to resume his day-to-day existence as a gardener."
Last night I received the photo above. My gnome traveled!!! Today I received the photo below. Somehow he made his way to my sister's pool. Looks like he is enjoying his time. I'm just so happy he is finally left our Akron backyard and he sending me photos of his journey.
