CIFF: Shuffle

Our 4th movie on the first Saturday of the Cleveland International Film Festival (yes, I'm still posting these - at least 10) . . . yet our 5th film overall, was "Shuffle". "Shuffle" is the story of a man who begins experiencing his life out of order; every day he wakes up at a different age, in a different year, on a different day of his life.

He wants it to stop.

What would you do if each time you woke up you were at a different age in your life? For Lovell Milo (no, not Milo Lovell) this is not a theoretical question, but an every day part of life. Since the age of 26, although he’s never quite sure when that was, his world has been this way—a literal card SHUFFLE, never knowing what he’s going to get dealt. The more his life jumps from year to year, the more restless and terrified he becomes, and ultimately he begins searching for clues to find a way out. Finally he starts noticing a pattern to what he is experiencing and discovers there may be a reason for this madness—a reason and a solution. A mesmerizing puzzle of a film, SHUFFLE is a black-and-white portrait of a disheartened young man’s second chance at life, a chance he may miss out on if he doesn’t play his cards right.

We ended up liking this one very much. It took me a little longer than Sharon for this one to sink in, but when it did, it was cool.
