The wife and I have been interested in the art scene for some time. Last fall, while on one of Akron's first Art Walks, we stumbled upon a theatre inside one of the galleries - The Summit ArtSpace. The theatre inside is called the "Bang and Clatter". The theater is upstairs inside one of downtown's old buildings (probably an old bank at some point). We decided to have a peek inside for about five minutes - as it was only a few moments before a show was about to begin. The place looked kind of amateurish; but it was "dark" and mysterious, and had an interesting underground vibe to it. In any case, we thought it was cool, and vowed to return there to take in a show. This past Friday night, she and I met up with another couple to attend a show at the Bang and Clatter. The play was called "Fat Pig". Indeed, most showings there are not your run of the mill mainstream type shows, and this was no exception. A most interesting show - edgy, yet with an interesting message - and the founder of the theater is actually one of the actors.
I suppose one of the draws to this theatre is that tickets are $15 . . . but they say that patrons can pay "what they can afford" because they didn't want to exclude the elderly on a budget, or the poor college student. With each admission, there is complimentary Yellow Tail wine (just about any flavour you'd like).
I guarantee our return - makes for a great date night.
