Day 3
Shanghai & Wuhan Itinerary:
Take morning free time to further explore Shanghai. After lunch in a local restaurant, fly to Wuhan. Visit the Hubei Provincial Museum, then transfer to Viking Century Sun, docked close to Wuhan’s historic waterfront. You are welcomed aboard with a Western meal, and your ship sails this evening.
Okay . . . free time to explore Shanghai was kind of a misnomer. We were taken to the other side of the river to tour the famous Bund - the riverfront boardwalk along the old concessions taken by other countries. Very tourist-trappy . . . but fun, nonetheless - and historic. The best crackup was negotiating for gifts with asundrious "paparazzi-type" merchants . . . through the tour bus window just prior to leaving. We figured, "Hey, we're on the bus, about to leave - you better rock-bottom those prices, 'cuz we're leaving." It worked, and it didn't. They're smart (experienced).
About that free-time
mentioned in the itinerary . . . we were taken to another silk shop . . . this time for silk carpet-making. Eeeesh. I'd rather have had the free time. But I won't complain. On the way, saw some neat sights . . .
Then the silk carpet workshop . . .
After visiting the slick carpet salesman, we got on the bus and headed for the airport to fly to Wuhan where our cruise ship was waiting. When we arrived in Wuhan, we first visited a not-so-nearby museum for a quick visit (again, could have gone without - not out of disrespect, but history museums are lower on our list than so many other things when visiting a foreign country - for example: SIGHTSEEING !!) before boarding the ship.
