The 34th Cleveland International Film Festival has started. Bryan and I love this event and look forward to it every year. A few years back at our first film event, we started off seeing 2 films. This year we are seeing 10 films! We saw 4 films on Sunday. I have never in my life watched that many movies in one day. Bryan and I don't watch a lot of TV to begin with, so that alone tells you how these films must really excite us. We spent the entire day in Cleveland - from morning until night. Fun!
Our last film, Speaking in Tongues, was our favorite so far. It was about kids learning a secondary language at a very young age in school, via immersion schools. These children become bilingual at an early age and it is amazing. For example, if a child's parents both speak English then the child will go Chinese/English or Spanish/English immersion school. In kindergarten they learn 90% of their content in Chinese (or Spanish). Sound crazy- but this works. It has been proven that these kids are not only more prepared for a global society which our world is heading, but these kids have a higher aptitude for learning in general.
The best time in our life to learn a language is before the age of 13. This is when our potential is the greatest. Funny how in America most people don't even BEGIN to learn a language until that age, or after. All I know is this, I am already feeling behind compare to some of those 5 year old kids I saw in that film. Rosetta Stone . . . here I come.

I totally agree with the Cleveland Film festival! We love to attend every year, but we weren't able to make it this year. How were the films you saw?? Also, Rick and I love to travel internationally - just booked our trip to Hong Kong for September!! But, we actually used Rosetta Stone last year to learn Italian, and it seriously works great. We traveled to Rome last spring, so we wanted to be able to speak fluently while we were there. I recommend getting the Level 1, 2 & 3 set for learning whatever language you decide. This set really gives you the confidence to speak and have real conversations in that language. Let me know if you need any other information on Rosetta Stone, be glad to help. Anyway, 'Buona fortuna col vostro studi.'

Thanks for the good info! The films we saw ranged between bad and excellent. Naturally, they can't all be good. I'll try to post some trailers here later on so you can get an idea of what we saw.
Way to go on Rosetta Stone - expensive, but I hear it's worth the money.
I noticed you're a new reader to this blog - how did you find us?

We comment and write to a variety of blogs, and because Rick is too lazy to create our own, we have to settle on posting comments to other peoples blogs. It's especially nice to find people with similar interests as us too!!
